NGC 2070, commonly known as the Tarantula Nebula, is a colossal star-forming region located about 160,000 light-years away in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. It is the most active and massive star-forming region in our galactic neighborhood and one of the brightest nebulae visible from Earth.
Fun Fact: If the Tarantula Nebula was at the same distance as the famous Orion Nebula (1500 light years) it would be 75 full Moons wide! It would stretch from the horizon to nearly halfway to being overhead and it would cast noticeable shadows here on Earth!
