The Running Chicken Nebula, also known as IC 2944, is a striking emission nebula located about 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus. This nebula gets its whimsical name from the appearance of bird-like shapes that can be seen in some of its dark dust regions.
Captured using an amateur setup of a Skywatcher NEQ6 mount, Sharpstar 90mm refractor and a ZWO ASI1600MM camera, the SHO palette creates distinct contrasts between the firey oranges and the deep blues. Using the narrowband palette also allows for the complex details to be captured.
